Our local control of Prostate cancer over the last 12 years has been in the 98% range.

There is increased public awareness and an associated increase in earlier diagnosis of prostate cancer. We have a responsibility to fully explain to you and your family the options that take advantage of early diagnosis.

While many successful choices are now available, in fact there really is only one best choice for each case. That is why we examine all the paths before presenting options to you. What we recommend depends upon the stage of the disease, the grade of the cell type, and most importantly, your concerns and goals.

Conformal therapy centers on modern radiation techniques, high dose rate implantation, permanent radioactive seeding, three dimensional ultrasound, advanced imaging, and hormonal therapy. Occasionally there is also a need for surgery. All of these possibilities are important options.

The correctly chosen plan leads to easier, more effective therapy that avoids permanent damage (incontinence, impotence or erectile dysfunction). Complications are decreasing.

There are many illusions and misconceptions no longer applicable to Prostate cancer in today's world.

Misconception: Prostate cancer will not kill you. Fact: Any cancer can.

Misconception: Prostate cancer doesn't have to be treated. Fact: It should be.

Misconception: Surgery is better than radiation for treatment. Fact: It is just one option.
